Selling three pieces of banana leaf art from the Dominican Republic.
These are dried and hardened banana leaves that have been hand-painted to resemble masks.
Wonderful, colorful, somewhat whimsical renderings and an interesting use of banana leaves.
We are selling all three together as a group - $30 for all three.
The largest painted banana leaf measure approximately 21 inches long top to bottom curved and about 5 inches wide at its widest point. One of the smaller leaves measures about 10 inches long and the smaller one about 81/2 inches long. Both smaller painted leaves are about 2 inches wide.
On the back of each of the painted banana leaves is a sticker (seen in attached photos) that reads in Spanish: “Yaguarte” (the name of the company) and under that “Man sue yaguartes arte.” It also reads “Artesania” b beneath which is “Usamaos products due la nartualeza nos ofreces - Conservamos el Medio Ambiente” which means “We use products which nature offers us. We conserve the environment.” At the bottom of the label it says in Spanish and English “Made in the Dominican Republic” accompanies by a Dominican flag.
In excellent condition.
Each painted banana leaf has a small wire on the back for hanging - or you can just display it on a table.
This is a terrific souvenir from the Dominican Republic, an example of creative use of something usually discarded to make fun and interesting folk art. Buy it for yourself or your favorite Dominican friend.
