For sale is a Mel Silverman Woodcut Print "UMBRIAN SUN" in a very good condition. It is signed & numbered 21/50 & dated 1964. The wood frame measures 31" wide X 2" tall & the image is approx 22" x 22". Denver-born artist Melvin Frank "Mel" Silverman (1931-66) was a versatile painter, illustrator, collagist and printmaker, regarded as one of the most respected young American artists of his generation, showing regularly at Gallery 100 in Princeton and at the Associated American Artists and Harry Salpeter galleries in New York City. At the time of his death from cancer, at age 35, some of his work was on view in a Smithsonian Institution exhibition of contemporary art and his work was also in a show of American graphic artists that had recently had a successful tour of the Soviet Union.
