Most public works contracts valued at $30,000 or more carry an obligation to hire apprentices where the trade/work is apprenticeable (except where the trade does not require apprentices). This applies to prime contractors and any subcontractors on the project.
In addition, contractors must submit contract award information (DAS 140 form) to applicable apprenticeship committees within 10 days of awarding the contract and may need to file a request for apprentice dispatch (DAS 142 form) if they do not have sufficient registered apprentices in their employ.
